Vuk Pejovic arrived to Hamilton just a few years ago from magical country of Montenegro. He is a code wizard for HHS by trade, and is attending McMaster University to improve his degree. Outside of work, he boxes at a local gym and has earned a spot on the plaques at The Judge pub on Augusta.

Amanda lives in Hamilton with 5 other people and loves spending time with her housemates. She is a grade 3 teacher by day in HDSB. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors, camping, cooking and loving life. She can also be found spending any spare minutes with her partner, Simon and their trusty, 4 legged best friend, Marvin.

Elysha Ardelean is a librarian by trade who more recently can be found practicing the domestic arts of baking and sewing, knitting and gardening while she spends a year off work learning how to be a mom. She believes in sharing soup and warm cups of coffee, picnicking when possible, and free internet for everyone.
The Day Erin Found Out She Could Never Go Home
Erin is a born and raised Hamiltonian. She likes to watch films, cross-stitch, and walk down the beach. Her most recent studies led her to a speaking opportunity in London, England this past summer where she enjoyed the best afternoon tea. She is also interested in areas of housing, poverty, and food insecurity in Hamilton.

Myke Hutchings is no stranger to the stage– a musician and composer living in East Hamilton, he’s told stories for Steel City Stories before. ( Turned Up! ) He lives his life walking the fine line between Pagan and Christian and has some thoughts about why he can’t go home again you won’t want to miss!

Meet the lovely host for Close Encounters!

Our host, Sam, got involved with Steel City Stories last year through the Women’s Day storytelling workshop. In her day job, Sam works for Tastebuds, Hamilton’s Student Nutrition Collaborative, a non-profit that helps Hamilton schools provide students with universal access to good, wholesome food. Sam also works as a visual artist and runs creative arts workshops in visual journaling and collage.

Kevin Makins is the founding pastor of Eucharist Church in downtown Hamilton, Ontario. His curiosity and spirit of adventure leads him to write, podcast, make videos, tour one-man shows, and act as a catalyst for local projects; ranging from art installations to bike lanes. With humour and depth, Kevin bridges the gap between the secular and sacred; the profound and profane. Introducing Gavin… A Close Encounter with Comedy
Gavin Stephens has filmed multiple one-man specials for CTV and the Comedy Network, and recently performed with Reggie Watts at #JFL42. He’s toured as a sought out headliner, all over North America, the U.K and South Africa. Gavin was also named Best Stand-Up Comedian in NOW Magazine’s Readers Choice Poll, 2010.
For five seasons he was a lead actor and writer on the Gemini-nominated sketch show Comedy Inc. on CTV. A multi-media sensation, Gavin has appeared at international festivals like Montreal’s Just For Laughs and Austin’s SXSW alongside indie comedy legends Margaret Cho, Janeane Garofalo and Marc Maron. He’s also has appeared on CBC’s The Debaters as well as being a finalist in the SiriusXM Top comic competition.
Introducing Kyle…a Hamiltonian with blue blood
Born and raised in Hamilton, and a 3rd generation Hamiltonian, Kyle grew up on tall-tales about this amazing city. With two degrees from McMaster University, he plies his trade with the city’s largest employer, Hamilton Health Sciences. Needless to say, Kyle bleeds “Hamilton blue”. Other passions include cycling, photography, and spending time with his wife Meg and his dog George.

Colleen loves stories in all their forms – flash fiction, novels, films, plays, song lyrics. And of course evenings of story telling! Between stories, she cooks and hangs with family and friends, gardens in her little urban jungle, and has a real job working with health care data.
